Helping Others: Siloam Mission

We were given the theme "helping others" and the best organization that crossed my mind was "Siloam Mission".

Siloam is an ancient Greek name derived from the ancient Hebrew Shiloah. It is an ancient site in Jerusalem and it is where Jesus healed a blind man since birth.

Winnipeg Free Press states that "Siloam Mission is a connecting point between the compassionate and Winnipeg's less fortunate. Siloam Mission is a Christian humanitarian agency offering programs and services at no charge to those experiencing homelessness. Siloam Mission alleviates the hardships of the poor and homeless, assists in transitioning them into self-sufficient and generous lifestyles, and advocates nationwide on their behalf."

Siloam Mission is a local Winnipeg charity that helps the less fortunate people. It is a Christian agency that offers employment training, health care expressive art programs and other generous services to those homeless people and it is free. As an organization, they have lots of Beliefs and Values that makes it an organization.

I chose Siloam Mission as the topic for the theme "helping others" because I like how they use their organization wisely and that they experienced lots of hardships but they never gave up on their hope to help others.

History
Siloam Mission was found by Suk Won Lee and other members of a Korean Nazarene congregation in August 1987 at 695/697 Main Street in Winnipeg, Manitoba. It first started as a ministry that offered hot meals and worship services for the people and as they gained more finance and more people demanded for services, they decided to expand their organization. In 1990 Siloam Mission was transferred to 707 Main Street but then it was forced to close on 1999 due to Pan Am Games and was moved to 564 1/2 Main Street and reopened on April 2000. It was then moved to Princess Street on November 2005 and until now the organization steadily grows and continues to help others towards a better life.
